» Also called the Yellow-eared Black Cockatoo
» A large cockatoo at 24 to 26" long
» The bird is endemic to central-eastern and southeastern Australia and Tasmania
» Two sub-species: Calyptorhynchus funerus funerus and Calyptorynchus xanthonotus
» Rare in captivity outside of Australia. Can be found only in a few zoos and private collections.
» Has a specialized diet with a need for more protein than other cockatoos
» While it is listed as stable, it is threatened in some areas of its fragmented range.
