» About 12" in length
» Endemic to Indonesia on the Talaud Islands (almost exclusively on Karakelang) off northern Sulawesi. 
» Endangered due to habitat destruction and capture for the pet trade. Populations continue to decline rapidly. The nominate species is probably extinct.
» Population in its restricted range may be as few as 5 to 10 thousand birds
» Not available or very rare in aviculture
» Two subspecies are extinct: The nominate species called the Sangihe Red and Blue Lory Eos histrio histrio (last recorded sighting in the mid 1900s) and the Challenger Red and Blue Lory Eos histrio challengero (last recorded in the late 19th century)
