» Endemic to the Amazon basin from Venezuela south of the Orinoco river through the Guianas to northern most Brazil
» Available in aviculture and as a companion conure
» There is some taxonomic confusion about several other Pyrrhura conures and whether they are separate species or subspecies of Pyrrhura picta.
» Has become increasingly available in aviculture and as a companion since the 1980s
» Considered stable in its range although in some areas of its range, the Painted is being threatened by habitat destruction
