What Would She Do With a Tube of Toothpaste?
Moluccan Cockatoo Molly

by Sally Blanchard

Molly, a large Moluccan Cockatoo who lived with a friend of mine, had a strange way of eating her veggies, fruit and other soft foods.  She stuffed and jammed as much of them as possible into her large hollow rubber toy. Then, carefully holding onto the toy in one foot, she hobbled up to the perch on the top of her cage using her beak and one foot. Once there, she held her "cornucopia" up to her beak and ate her meal by using her foot to power squeeze portions out of the toy a little at a time.
