Original Eastern Rosella Prismacolor Pencil Portrait by Sally Blanchard
Eastern Rosellas are colorful birds in this family from Australia. There are 6 species of Rosellas with several sub-species and are in the genus Platycercus, which means "broad-tailed" or "flat-tailed", reflecting a feature common to the rosellas and other members of the broad-tailed parrot tribe. Their diet is mainly seeds and fruit. They are beautiful and can be kept as companions. I have known some Rosellas that have been excellent talkers.
