BROWN-HOODED PARROT
Pyrilia haematotis

» Originally placed in the genus Pionopsita
» A stocky little bird at about 8" long, weighing about 165 grams
» Endemic to southeastern Mexico to northwestern Colombia
» Although its populations are considered stable, it is declining in its range due to habitat destruction.
» I can find no record of this bird being available in aviculture or as a companion parrot

I include this parrot because I saw several of them in Costa Rica and found them to be quite charming.
