White Eyed Conure

WHITE-EYED CONURE
Now: Psittacara Leucophtalmus
Was: Aratinga leucophthalmus

» Also called the White-eyed parakeet
» Endemic to much of South America east of the Andes.
» 12 to 13” in length
» Is considered stable in its range. Has adapted to the encroachment of man in its habitats.
» Fairly commons a companion conure.

While people may think this bird is not colorful (Hey green is a color!), these birds can have a delightful personality. Many years ago, I did a consultation with a white-eye who had an extensive vocabulary and loved to sit on his caregiver’s shoulder and whisper sweet-nothings into her ear. It took me about a half an hour to teach him to do a somersault in my hand.
