Yellow Faced Parrot

YELLOW-FACED PARROT
(No Longer Classified as an Amazon)

Alipiopsitta xanthops

» 10” (25.4 cm) M/F similar
» This small parrot’s DNA has characteristics from both the Amazon and the Pionus genus but it was given its own Genus and is no longer grouped with Amazons (or Pionus)
» Several descriptions I have read state that they have more of a Pionus personality.
» From eastern and central Brazil
» The beak is quite unique with an irregular dark gray splotch on the upper middle. There are two color morphs: a yellow and a green morph with varying amounts of yellow and green on the head and orange on the sides of the chest.
» Bred in captivity but very rare in pet trade.
» CITES II:
Near-threatened
