Blue Eyed Cockatoo

BLUE-EYED COCKATOO
Cacatua ophthalmica

» Range limited to New Britain, eastern Papua New Guinea

Vulnerable
» 20" in length
» Rare in United States: Little is known about its potential as a human companion
» Has bare-skinned bright blue eye ring

I was lucky enough to see a pair of these birds at a breeder's aviary. To me, the birds looked a combination of several other cockatoos - a little bit Umbrella, a little bit Moluccan, a little bit Bare-eyed, and a little bit sulfur-crest. I was told that they were one of the best cockatoo companions but I have never met one so I don't know if this is true or not.
