DO YOU REALLY WANT YOURPARROT CONSUMING MENADIONE?
Banned in Human foods and Pet Foods in some countries in Europe because it is considered a CARCINOGEN

- Menadione is a CHEAP chemical vitamin K (cheaper than alfalfa a natural vitamin K source) that doesn't even work in the body the same as natural vitamin K. It has other names but they start with menadione. However some manufacturers refer to menadione as 'A source of vitamin K activity' or 'Vitamin K supplement” probably because they don't want you to know that menadione is in their products. This toxic ingredient is in most parrot pelleted diets, dog and cat foods. CHECK THE LABELS!- Why is Menadione a serious concern? It is banned in human food. Many countries in Europe ban it in pet foods because it is considered a carcinogen.- The manufacturers will tell you that there is not enough Menadione in their highly processed pelleted diet to cause a problem but they advise feeding their products as a total or near total diet for your bird's whole life. For many reasons feeding nothing but pellets is a death diet. This chemical is banned in human foods and in pet foods in many countries in Europe because it is considered to be a carcinogen (cancer producing).- Natural vitamin K is essential for blood clotting and bone health. In fact when people fed a seed diet, some parrots, particularly conures, suffered internal hemorrhaging and died. Many foods vegetables and fruits are great for vitamin K. These include dark leafy greens like kale and collards. broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, green grapes, kiwi fruit, and green apples. Fresh foods are the best foods for your parrot! KICK THE PELLET MYTH- A few years ago I did extensive research on pelleted diets for parrots. Most manufactured diets contain menadione plus many other unhealthy questionable chemicals and ingredients like Food coloring (can prevent the metabolism of important nutrients), Soy (a hormone disrupter), maltodextrin (spikes blood sugar, prevents growth of healthy gut bacteria), sugar, GMO Canola oil, GMO Corn, BHA and other problematic preservatives. READ THE LABELS! - This is a list of the ones that contained the Toxic (considered carcinogenic) Synthetic Vitamin K Menadione: Abba 2500 Nuggets, Avian Special Needs, Avi-Sci Dr. D’s, Breeder’s Blend, Brown’s Zoo Vital Daily Parrot Diet, Caitec Oven Fresh Bites, Hagen Tropican, Kaytee Exact, Kaytee Exact Rainbow Parrot and Conure, Kaytee Exact Rainbow Large Parrot, Lakes, Lefebers Parrot Food, Lefebers Nutriberries, Mazuri, All Pretty Bird Foods (In my opinion the nastiest food on the market(, Roudybush Maintenance Parrot Food, Roudybush Careline, Scenic Bird Food, Zupreem Fruit Blend (Vitamin K supplement-most likely menadione) and Zupreem Natural (Source of Vitamin K activity - most likely menadione) There may have been some changes in Menadione in a few of these products so please check the labels. The only pellet I recommend is TOPS Parrot Food because it contains none of the ingredients listed above that I have serious concerns about. It is a cold rolled pellet that is made from sustainably-farmed natural nutritious food powders.
