COLD-PAINTED AUSTRIAN BRONZE CAROLINA PARAKEET ON AN INK SET
by Sally Blanchard
This is a "cold-painted bronze" of a Carolina Parakeet sitting on and ink set. The term "cold-painted" is used online to describe colorful bronze or spelter figures. The piece is cast and then painted. The bronze figures could be by themselves but some like this Carolina parakeet were added to expensive desk sets. The are usually called Vienna or Austrian Bronzes because most of them were made there. Becaues they were actually covered with enamel paint, they were very colorful. Animals and birds were common subjects and are now quite collectible.
